Recent Calls

ATTENTION
Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered
as a result of these events.

We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.

Every BVFD member that responded to the calls send their thoughts and condolences
to everyone affected by the incidents.

2 Single Vehicle Accident's & A Fall
Weds. June 23rd 2010

On June 23rd at 2120 Hrs The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for the Rescue Local for a single vehicle accident with inuries on Parker Road. Ambulance 44-70 responded with 3. At 2126 Hrs While responding to the MVA, Mineral County Dispatch again alerted Station 44 for the fall patient. Utility 44 responded with 4 to handle this call

Station 44 was alerted at 2145 Hrs for the Rescue Local another single vehicle accident with injuries at the Intersection of Rt. 50 Rodgers Road. Rescue Engine 44 responded with a crew of 3 & Ambulance 44-70 responded with 3. Upon arrival, crews found a vehicle head on into the embankment. FF/EMT Henderson and FF/EMT Placka established patient care. One patient was transported to Grant Memorial Hospital. Chief 44(T. Simpson) had Rt. 50 command.

Station 44 was again alerted at 2230 Hrs for the Rescue Local a Motor Vehicle Accident with ejection on Route 220. Rescue Engine 44 responded with a crew of 6, Ambulance 44-71 responded with 3 and Rescue Mini Pumper responded with 2. Due to the unknown location Hardy County was also alerted. Upon arrival, Hardy County units had already began patient care. Rescue Mini Pumper established the Landing Zone. All units cleared the scene at 2320 Hrs.


June 7th 2010
Busy Day keeps Station 44 running

On June 7th at 1700 Hrs The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for the Rescue Local on Beaver Run Road. Ambulance 44-70 responded with 3 and Rescue Engine 44 responded with 6. While responding, Mineral County Sheriff Department placed the rescue unit in service. Ambulance 44-70 responded in to obtain a sign refusal

Also at 1700 hours, station 44 was alerted for the Rescue Local on Rt. 50 East of the Van Myra. Dispatch advised a Motor Vehicle Accident (Motorcycle). Ambulance 44-70 responded with 2 and Utility 44 responded with 3. Upon arrival, crews found 1 patient in the ditch. The patient was conscious and breathing. The patient was transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

44 Alerted For The Code

On May 29th at 1830 Hrs The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for the code blue on Beaver Run Road. Ambulance 44-70 responded with a crew of 3 and Utility 44 responded with a cew of 2. While enroute, EMT Henderson called for a medic from Hampshire County. ALS 101 responded from Romney which was just Recently placed in service. Upon arrival, crews found a patient in full arrest. After every effort, patient was pronounced deceased.

Station 44 Alerted For The Assist

On April 29th at 1200 Hrs The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for the mutual assist to Company 39 (Fountain Fire) for a residential structure fire on Fried Meat Ridge Road. Tanker 44 responded with a crew of 3. Tanker 44 was cancelled while enroute and returned in service.

Station 44 Alerted For The Alarm Bells

On April 2th at 1230 Hrs The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for a residential alarm sounding on Ebert Road. Rescue Engine 44 responded with a crew of 5 and the Lt. Haggerty. Upon arrival Rescue Engine 44 advised of nothing showing. Crews made entry into the residence and determined no one was home. Stations alerted on the call Company 44 (Burlington Fire), Company 38 (New Creek Fire), and Company 39 (Fountain Fire). Units returned to service in about 15 minutes.

Station 44 Alerted For Another Rescue Local

On April 18th during the late morning hours The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for another single vehicle MVA with rollover on Knobley Road South. Rescue Engine 44 responded with a crew of 5 and the Lieut. Ambulance 44-70 responded with a crew of 4. Upon arrival crews found a vehicle overturned into a fence with the patient standing outside. The patient was taken to the ambulance for further assessment. While assessing the patient, they complained of neck pain and was immobalized. the patient transported to the Potomac Valley Hospital.

Station 44 Alerted For The Rescue Local

On April 16th around 1800 hours The Burlington Volunteer Fire Company was alerted for the single vehicle MVA with entrapment on Knobley Road South. Rescue Engine 44 responded with a crew of 4 and Ambulance 44-70 responded with a crew of 2. Chief 44 (T. Simpson) arrived on the scene advising of a red tag patient entrapped in the vehicle. Rescue Engine 44 arrived on the scene and performed a door pop on the driver side door. The patient was removed and transported by Trooper 5 (Maryland State Police) to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

44 House Alerted Mutual To Hardy County

On April 6th around 1500 hours 44 tones were sounded for a mutual aid assist to Hardy County for the large Wildland Fire on Saurkraut Lane off Route 55. Brush 44 along with Kubota 44 responded. Hardy County, Grant County, Mineral County, Hampshire County in West Virginia and Frederick County in Virginia all had units either on the scene or responding. Then around 1800 Hrs Station 44 tones were again alerted for a Transfer to Mathias Baker Station 4. Engine Tanker 44 Responded. Crews remained on the scene overnight and at this time are still working to bring this fire under containment.

Flue Fire in 44's 1st Due With Upgraded Assignment

On March 29th at 0500 hours Box area 44-1 was sounded for a Residential Flu Fire on Route 50. Rescue Engine 44 responded with a crew of 5. Upon arrival Lieutentant R.Haggerty upgraded the box to a working structure fire. Chief 44 (T. Simpson)established command. FF C.Burns and FF R.Foster pulled the line to the door while FF D. Haggerty ran the pump. Interior crew knocked the fire down on the initial attack. Crews from Co.1 (Romney Fire) and Co.38 (New Creek Fire) assisted with overhaul procedures. Well done to all the house is still standing

44 House Runs Multiple Vehicle MVA With Entrapment

On February 25th at 1740 hours Chief 44 informed Mineral County dispatch of an MVA on Route 50 near the Van Myra. Chief 44 (T. Simpson) advised there were 3 vehicles involved including a tractor trailer with fluids on the roadway. Chief 44 also advised of entrapment. Rescue Engine 44 responded with 4 and Ambulance 44-71 responded with 2. Captain 44 (T. Turner), FF/EMT Henderson, and FF D. Haggerty began extrication of the patient. Patient was extricated within 15 minutes and transported to Western Maryland Medical Center. Crew remained on scene for about 3 hours assisting towing in the removal of the vehicles. Due to the location of the call Station 38 (New Creek) was also alerted for a Medic Unit and Engine for traffic control. Special Thanks to the West Virginia DOH for assisting with putting sand on the road way due to the large amount of fluid.
