Dear Community Member,
In the early morning hours of March 11, 2006, Burlington Volunteer Fire Department was alerted to respond to a vehicle accident on Patterson's Creek Road, south of Burlington, WV. When our personnel arrived on scene, our worst fears were realized. Involved in the accident was one of our own fire department members. Joseph Lee Feaster, age 20, was within mere yards of arriving at his home on Patterson's Creek Road when the accident occurred, but never made it there. Instead he was called to his final Home by our Heavenly Father.
"Joe" was the son of Dale and Lynn Feaster of Burlington, also members of BVFD, and are very active volunteers in our organization, and are always ready and willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed. Having lost their son at such an early age, Dale and Lynn, wanted to be sure that something good came out of their loss. It was with that thought that the "Joseph Feaster Memorial Scholarship" was established in 2007. The first year the scholarship was funded entirely by the Feasters. Since then the scholarship has been funded by our department. This scholarship is awarded each year to a community member who has chosen to further their education in the Health Care field. They must have at least a 2.0 GPA, and submit a 500 word essay on community service and/or being a volunteer. The winner is chosen together by the Feasters and the members of our department.
For 2011, we will be hosting the 2nd Annual Joseph Feaster Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament to raise the much needed funds. The tournament will be held on April 16, 2011 at 9:00AM, at Mill Creek Country Club in Burlington, and will be open to the public. The tournament will consist of 27, two man teams, with a fee of $60.00 per golfer, that will include a free golf shirt for participants and a chicken barbecue dinner following the end of play. The proceeds from the golf tournament will be used exclusively to fund this scholarship and we are asking you to be a part of this endeavor by either being a sponsor or contributing to this worthy cause. Your sponsorship may be in the form of a general monetary donation, donation of prizes to be awarded to the participants, or a $50.00 minimum hole sponsorship which includes a color advertisement sign highlighting your business name on a hole of the golf course. Your charitable participation will be greatly appreciated and will serve to help a young community member with their education as well as celebrate the memory of "Joe".
Please help us to memorialize a much loved and missed, son, friend, community member and volunteer firefighter, and aslo help further the education of one of our local students. If you have any questions you may contact Robert and Dawn Dawson at 304-289-3072 or Dale and Lynn Feaster at 304-289-3098. Please respond before March 20, 2011 and address your correspondence and donation to Burlington Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 97, Burlington, WV 26710, ATTN: Golf Tournament Committee.
Yours in service,
Burlington Volunteer Fire Department
