ATTENTION
Some of the pictures and stories shown on the following pages may be disturbing. In many of these cases, the stories are tragic. People have been seriously injured and in some instances, killed. Those involved frequently have suffered very significant, sometimes permanent injuries. The patients, their families, and their friends have all suffered as a result of these events.
We often receive calls from patients or their families asking us about what happened during an incident. The following photos and stories are provided, similar to a newspaper account, for educational and informational purposes. It is our hope that through education, tragic incidents such as these can be prevented.
Every WFVFD member that responded to the calls wish to send
their thoughts and condolences to everyone affected by the incidents.

Rescue Local 27-1 ATV Accident

Seymour Road
On August 6th 2010 at 0955 Hrs, Mineral County Communications alerted Station 27 for Rescue Local 27-1 an all terrain vehicle accident reported into a pickup truck with injuries on Seymour Road. Chief 27 (Ashenfelter) responded direct to the scene and advised of one patient. Brush 27-61 responded from Station 27. The patient was transported by Ambulance 34-71 (Short Gap Fire) and was met while enroute to the hospital by Ambulance 375 (Bowman's Addition Fire) with a medic on board. There were no injuries to the driver of the pickup.

Multiple Motor Vehicles With Entrapment

Route 28
On July 29th 2010 at 1620 Hrs, Mineral County Communications alerted Station 27 for Rescue Local 27-5 a multiple vehicle accident reported head on with entrapment. Rescue 27, and Engine 27-11 responded. Upon arrival on the scene it was confirmed as a head on with 1 priority one patient, and one priority four patient. Route 28 command (Chief 27 Ashenfelter) was established and requested Rescue Engine 34 to establish traffic control on the southern end. Rescue 27 crews freed the patient from the vehicle for transport. The priority one patient was transported by Valley Medical. The third vehicle ws located off the roadway with no injuries. Units operated on the scene for 2.5 hours.

Motor Vehicle Over The Rock

Seymour Bottoms
On July 25th 2010 at 2250 Hrs, Mineral County Communications alerted Station 27 for a single vehicle accident reported over the rock at Seymour Bottoms. Rescue 27 and Brush 27-61 responded. Upon arrival on the scene one patient was located walking along the road and was transported by Ridgeley Ambulance 25-71. The patient advised crews that the other subject had gone over the rock with the vehicle. The subject was located approximately 600 feet over the mountain. Once the patient was located command (Chief 27 Ashenfelter) requested mutual from District 16 (Company 7), Ridgeley (Company 25), and Short Gap (Company 34) for manpower also District 16 (Company 7) for a squad to fill in Station 27. The patient was lowered to the bottom of the mountain approximately 800 feet from the top and carried by stokes basket to Bowman's Addition Ambulance 375 for transport to the hospital. Units operated on the scene for 3 hours.

27 House Runs Mutual To Ridgeley

Carpendale
On Monday July 5th at 1625 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the mutual aid assist to the Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Department (Company 25) for the unknown type fire in Carpendale. Engine 27-11, Engine 27-12 and Brush 27-61 all responded. While enroute all units were placed in service by Deputy Chief 25.

| On Wednesday June 30th at 1715 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the two vehicle accident on Route 28 at Detrick Road. Rescue 27 with a crew of 5 responded. Crews arrived on the scene to fnd two vehicles with two injuries. Ridgeley Volunteer Fire Ambulance 25-70 and Ambulance 25-71 Transported one each. Rescue 27 crews contained the fluids and setup traffic control. |

| On Sunday June 27th at 0500 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the in station stand by while units were on a working commercial building fire on Route 220 South in Keyser. |

| On Saturday June 26th at 1455 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the Local Alarm 27-1 for the brush fire on Alternate Route 28. Engine 27-12 and Brush 27-61 both responded. Upon arriving on the scene crews determined the land owner had been burning for several days before causing the fire. Crews operated on the scene for 1 Hour. All units were returned to service.

| On Friday June 18th at 2355 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the mutual aid to Company 7 District 16's area for a single vehicle MVA with rollover on Route 51. Engine 27-11 with a crew of 6 responded. Crews operated on the scene for 40 minutes. All units were returned to service.

| On Tuesday June 15th at 1715 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the rescue local 27-2 a single vehicle motor vehicle accident at the Route 28 at Zims's Tire Sales. Engine 27-12, Rescue 27 responded. Upon arriving crews found a single vehicle with one patient. Ambulance 34-70 (Short Gap Fire) transported 1 patient. Personnel on the scene contained all fluids and assisted with traffic control. All units were returned to service.

Route 28 Lambert's Auto Sales

| On Friday May 28th at 1115 Hrs the Wiley Ford Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for the rescue local 27-2 a two vehicle motor vehicle accident at the Route 28 Lambert's Auto Sales. Squad 27 responded. Upon arriving crews found two vehicles with a fluid leak and two patients. Ambulance 25-70 (Ridgeley Fire) transported 1 patient while Ambulance 34-71 (Short Gap Fire) recieved 1 signed patient refusal. Personnel on the scene contained all fluids and assisted with traffic control. All units were returned to service after 45 minutes.
